THE PROJECT STORY
From small towns to large cities, fire stations are an iconic institution across our country. They need to be functional, built to last, and comfortable for the brave first responders who call the station home multiple nights each week. City leaders in Broken Arrow, OK considered these needs when replacing an aging, 50-year old station, with a new, state-of-the-art firehouse to better serve the community. To accomplish these diverse needs, Best Block Architectural CMU was used extensively for the interior and exterior.
The new, 12,000 square foot station makes extensive use of Best Block Groundface charcoal CMU on the exterior, which is complemented by the traditionally red elements of a fire station. The use of such sturdy building materials provides protection against natural disasters and other emergencies where a fire station must remain operable.
The interior features Best Block CMU in terra cotta, charcoal, and black- star to create attractive, low-maintenance and durable surroundings for the fire fighters. Now quality block is essential, but the attractive aesthetic would not be possible without a skilled team of masons – and that is exactly what C & N Masonry Inc. provided.
In the end, the community had an incredibly important new resource, the fire fighters were able to enjoy comfortable new surroundings and the city and its taxpayers have an investment that will last decades.

Surface Preparation
The lobby previously housed a multi-level water feature, so the concrete required significant demolition and remediation. Then, the entire substrate was treated with TechPrime™ A Advanced Acyrylic Primer prior to leveling. This product is ideal for concrete slabs but is also appropriate for non-porous surfaces, making it a true all-purpose primer.
